Recently I've been a little down I think for reasons that are both in and out of my control. But that's not really what this entry is about and I don't intend to set off any alarms in anyone to make them concerned. I'm only mentioning it because tonight I feel really happy.

I never knew that my mom had tapes that my grandparents had made in 1978 when my mom and dad moved to Michigan. My grandmother would record herself, my grandfather, my great grandmother, my aunt, and my uncle (pre-divorce) having dinner or just sitting around talking. Other times they would record messages for my mom and dad when they were lying in bed or getting ready to go to work, talking about how their day had gone or whatever was on their minds. My grandmother then sent my mom and dad these tapes along with letters and things all of which my mom saved. I didn't know either of my mom's parents. My grandmother died in 1983, i think when she was 51, and my grandfather died in 1984 in his early fifties. My dad's dad also died when he was 53 in 1984. The only grandparent I've known is my great grandmother from the tapes and my dad's mom, who by the way is my bowling partner on Fridays at 12 o'clock down at the Alpha Lanes in Lansingburgh. We're pros. So tonight my mom and I were looking at the numerous amounts of old photos she has in a box she keeps in her room. She remembered the tapes and we stayed up till three listening to them all. I heard their voices and laughs for the first time tonight and it made me really happy.

Tomorrow I'm going to continue the disaster that has become my job search and enjoy the day my mom has off from work.
