I didn't live blog this time so I could really immerse myself in the episode, and now I'm sitting here trying to furiously capture my thoughts and emotions before I go read anyone else's reaction online.

Dearing still seems pretty lame to me, too, but I liked a lot of the rest of the episode.

The part where Gibbs leaves Cole with the bomb made sense to me - they established that the bomb squad wouldn't make it in time, so Cole is Gibbs' best hope of diffusing the bomb. It doesn't seem likely that Cole would intentionally set it off because if he did he'd be committing suicide, and he hasn't been the type to sacrifice himself. I really liked Cole because he seemed like a more interesting, nuanced villain - they certainly developed him more than they have Dearing, so far anyway.

Ryan's kid was even more annoying than she is!

The end scene was beautiful. I love Ducky and I know Callum is supposed to be signed on for another season but I kind of feel like it would be a cop-out if everyone survived, particularly him, given he's the last scene and the "Till Death Do Us Part" episode title.

The part where Ryan explained the dead horse skull was spoken too quickly for me to really understand but it had something to do with Samson or maybe Sampson in the Bible? Weird coincidence with last year's season finale and Cobbs' obsession with a horse named Samson.

If I were Cole, I would have run the hell away as soon as Gibbs left and continued to a psychopath on the loose with a knife. I didn't buy the death wish, because you're right, he isn't the type to sacrifice himself. Think about how he shot Latham in "Housekeeping" rather than come in to talk to Gibbs and SecNav.

Ryan's kid was there so briefly it didn't really register.

I kind of feel the same way you do, that this episode would lose a lot of its power if Ducky survived. (The other part of me is all, Nooooo, Ducky, no! I already thought there was too little David McCallum on the show.)

Why was Ryan there when Vance got kidnapped again? Oh that's right, to annoy me. She didn't have a purpose in that scene except to provide that implausible bit of exposition.
