I agree with you on everything, especially your first point about Tiva. That ending scene was so surreal. I was like, "Wait, are they really doing this? I mean, pushing Tiva right out in the open?"
I'm still caught a bit off-guard by it. I suppose it has been becoming less subtext-y all season. They had DiNozzo Sr. comment on it. They had EJ comment on it (and THAT scene had me rolling my eyes pretty hard, mostly because they invented some whole Tony/EJ backstory about her not understanding his movie references that I don't think we'd ever seen before). Also, what happened to Ziva and EJ being entirely suspicious of each other?
Combine that end scene with next week's promo and this is like bizarro-world NCIS where people talk about their feelings.
I don't think they were actually trying to hit Stratton. They were corralling him like a wild boar in a pig hunt. They needed him alive - he was the only one left who could answer the questions about phantom 8.
Ah, good point. It was interesting how Stratton brought up Mexico YET AGAIN in interrogation. To me, it didn't seem like that comment was going anywhere, but is that the storyline that won't die or what?
What did you think of the ending, my little tivafan?
As far as storylines go, color me confused now about how this season will play out. I thought it was going to come down to a face off with Stratton and that Latham guy, but now that one's in custody and one's dead, what's going to be the major plot arc of the season?
Who was the writer? I'm bad with that kind of thing unless it's publicised in advance. But something tells me that this kind of decision is heavily discussed and given the go ahead from the head honchos before it can appear on our screens. Where's that insider blog thing for this episode? That will be interesting to read when it gets posted.
I really liked it, and also liked reading all the theories and interpretations here. I'm maybe not as steeped in NCIS as the rest of the commentors here, so that may make me more easily pleased by the show, and maybe also more like the typical viewer. Personally I don't care about what they do with the Tony/Ziva flirty subplot, really, just as long as the writing and the acting is good and interesting, I'm happy. And I thought both were well done here, and seemed natural. I actually think that the long, simmering, are-we aren't-we dance is believable in a tight knit workplace
( ... )
I think it's a good point that the typical viewer of NCIS is pretty casual--you know there aren't 19 million people out there who have seen every episode. But I also enjoyed it.
Interesting theory about Gibbs's/Franks's past. That was anothe one out of left field at the end of last season, when Franks showed up at the door with a box we'd last heard about two seasons before. Hopefully it won't become some sort of magic box that that holds the answer to every mystery on the show, but you're right, there is potential there.
Maybe in the 200th episode they'll start to get into it? Your theory kind of jibes with some spoilers I've read for that....
It is a very under-recognised aspect of Tony's personality that he does remember everything. I can't remember this ever being so explicitly written into the show before, although I think it's always been subtext in the way that Michael Weatherly plays Tony.
I can't remember Gibbs being so intimidating in a long while--he really gets in Tony's space behind his desk there--but maybe that's just my perception.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. It was definitely an odd comment. I was like, "What the hell, show? Hasn't that storyline already run its course?"

It was a good episode.
And yes, Oh my god what have they done with NCIS.
Hmm ... SM does have a young family to support, so maybe its that.
