The raid is about to move on Occupy LA. Police lines set, streets closed and more police moving in....
It was supposed to happen Sunday night. I went out to meet my friends.
The eviction was to be at
12:01AM. I met up with Leslie and his crew then entered the park to find
Angelus. Police presence was large but not intimidatingly heavy.
Streets were blocked off all around city hall. People clogged the
streets. It was a protest...but it was a peaceful protest. Many of us
could tell the officers didn't even really want to be there.
The camp had thinned out as I watched former protesters dragging their
camping gear down the street. Those who remained were resolute,
peace-committed...and constantly creative. A small, silent group lit
candles in the shape of a cross on the South steps while just next them
two guys built a treehouse. By 2:30AM the word went round that they were
not going to arrest anyone in the park due to "too many people" but
that the streets needed to be cleared for traffic. Apparently 4 yahoos
were arrested around 5:30AM for acting up, but were long gone by then.
On the way back to the car, a female officer in full riot gear stood
casually next to the east entrance. "Have a good night," we said. "You
too," she smiled....
