I am in Kiev and after a (very) long tour of the city, I have to say that it is beautiful. It's easy to see where most of the money has gone. I hope some of it goes into Lvov.
Still Ukraine is very poor. I haven't visited the villages, but the average income is about $90US. I can imagine,
The tour guide we had today quouted the Ukrainian president: "We have what we have."
Ukraine is not going to join the EU. The EU doesn't want to deal with what they would have to deal with and
The contrasts are even starker than I imagined. The orthodox church has obviously had some encounters with Islam at some point. The cathedrals here (which are restored and beautiful) share many characteristics with mosques. Women had to cover their hair upon entrance.
I lit candles today for my loved ones. Take God where you can find it, I say.
There's been a lot of partying. I need some "me time," but that concept seems to be somewhat alien here. The night train was a party I had to sit out.
