return from vacation to tall grass

Jul 31, 2004 23:35

i just returned to the 2607 from a nice family vacation.
i realized how committed we as usamericans are to relaxation and the art of vacationing.
while we were at the beach it rained 3/4 days. i just slept. i saw a 20/20 episode that talked about a sleep debt, when your body needs more sleep than it gets...you rack up a sleep debt. here's the transcript on Recovery Sleep
If you do have a sleep debt, sometimes you can pay it off by napping. All stages of sleep are important, but the sleep that helps the body to recover happens quite soon after falling asleep. "You get a terrific return from the first 20 or 30 minutes of sleep relative to any other 20 to 30 minutes of sleep so naps pack a lot of power," says Dinges. Dinges says the best time to take a nap is from noon to 6 p.m. and the peak time is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. It is also critical that you lie down completely. Finally, it is more efficient to nap in advance of anticipated sleep debt rather than the next day.

so i followed good ol' dinges advice and slept with little raleigh 20 pounds of princess cuddled on my chest.

k. so here is what i have learned, my new fav revolutionary doesn't have a name.

actually he has a name, but he goes down in history without us knowing it.
millions of humans witnessed his revolutionary moves on their TV sets on June 5, 1989.
for his courage he will only be known as "tank man"

Tiananmen Square is in chaos. chinnese college students are protesting for democracy. the chineese army unleashed on these students resulting in a massacre.
thousands are dead, and in the shadow of death the day before a line of 18 tanks enters the square for clean up.

he was a small ordinary man in slacks and a white shirt. shopping bag in hand. this ordinary man does the extrordinary, he posts himself before an approaching tank.
the tank swerves right, he, to block it moves left. the tank swereves left; he moves right. then this anonymous rebel climbs up onto the vehicle of war and says:
"Why are you here? My city is in chaos because of you."

I have watched this video dozens of times: http://cnn.com/resources/video.almanac/1989/tiananmen/tianamen.tanks.large.27sec.mov

download it. watch it. and ponder the [quest]ion: what tanks am i running from? second Q: why?

1 John 4:4
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Matthew 11:12
From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.
