So I went to a Scrabble tournament, the Dallas Open 2009. Here are some highlights:
* I built a wall to put in front of my clipboard to shield my score sheet from the opponent's eyes. That is because I write down my racks on there and words that I am thinking of to see if they look right. The wall was made out of a rectangular piece of laminate flooring.
It was propped up with a pencil. However it tended to fall over with a clatter and on the last day I stopped using it.
I'm working on a new one.
* Usually I don't have a roommate and I don't ride down with people, but this time I did, and saved money. Also I had more company, which was great.
* In my games I played three champion players, Lloyd Mills, Sam Kantimathi, and Jim Geary, all of whom trashed me pretty badly.
* My final record was 10-9 although I think I said 9-8 or just 9 wins to some people. The number in the tournament was 19.
* There are some pictures of me during the first few rounds on the Dallas Open website! I am pretty happy to be recognized by the photographer. Here links are.

Also, I sort of feel like the boy Philippe from the Achewood cartoon when he posts his Fun Friday Facts. I think he is my role model or something.
The awards ceremony was the best one I have been to. I love the community at scrabble tournaments. There are so many folks I see who I know from other places. I have been doing tournaments for 7 years.
