So another celebrity has passed away. What happened to Natasha Richardson is very sad. Didn't Sonny Bono die from a tragic skiing accident, too ( Read more... )

While I was not a fan of hers, necessarily, she certainly put in a good day's work in the movies I've seen (Patty Hearst and Handmaid's Tale (terrible movie, but SHE was good)).

That said, this could have been a story about a Jane Doe and would still be sad...skiing accident that she WALKED AWAY from (feeling perfectly fine, if shaken up) and the next day she...I'm not really sure how it happened...was she just dizzy?...and then she's in a coma and she's brain-dead!! Whoa! Very sudden and scary stuff for a family to have to deal with no matter who it was.

...and many ARE fans of her husband, Liam Neeson, so that may be part of it...

Of course, I'm completely in agreement with you on the whole "I never saw a single movie of hers, but I was such a big fan" crap. As soon as any musician died, I knew there'd be a flood of people coming in to grab their CDs and would put them up by the register at the FYE...and the "vultures" as I called them would flock in. "If you never had one of their cds before, why does their being dead now mean that you HAVE to buy their greatest hits collection, exactly?" I would think.

I mean, I own NO Grateful Dead CDs and never really listened to them and can maybe only name a single song from them ("Shades of Grey") and that's only because it was a semi-popular video on MTV when it first came out (not that it was particularly MY taste). When Jerry Garcia died, I didn't SUDDENLY become a fan and scarf up their CDs (though I do like Cherry Garcia Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream).

I've never had Cherry Garcia ice cream, only because I hate the Grateful Dead and am not about to eat something that's named after them.
