One of the suggestions that came in yesterday when I described how we have to hand-move the Pres-to-Logs from the trailer to the woodbox (only a few meters) was to build a ramp and roll the logs down it. While it's understandable, I don't think it would work.
Pres-to-Logs (and their siblings, which are similar, but sold under different names) are just sawdust that is heavily compressed into a log form. There are no binders or glues involved. While you get a very efficient, well-burning log (better than cord-wood), it does mean that not only can you not get them wet (they dissolve into a soggy mess), but they're not all that strong. Here is a picture of where one of the logs cracked in two. That's not too much of a problem in this case, but I think if you tried to roll them (rather than carry them four at a time the way I do), you'd end up with a bunch of broken logs.
I'm not sure what we'll do when we get to the point where we can't move the wood around like this. We'll face that challenge when it happens. But for now, these logs are a much better solution for heating the house than cord-wood. The latter is much more expensive and doesn't burn as well, with a lot more ask and I think less heat.
