so last week i wnet to a couple of parties, managed to have some fun, and then the rest of the week was just prepping for the festival.
the festival...
playing with my own band felt slightly liberating, and i saw a lot of people i haven't seen in over a year. saturday was awesome with carmine appice (the drummer who's recorded everyone and their mother) and his hot drummer chick who looked straight at me when she broke a stick, and i elbowed alec collins in the face to get it. even though he said he was gunna give it to me anyways.lol then i got up front for the hold steady, who were the shit. and waited with my aching back and legs in the front row to watch devo. who hadn't played philly in 20 years, who were all at least 60, and who kicked so much ass. mat left me in the rain so i walked form the festival to race, and all the way up to broad, but weber came and got me, so it was all cool.
sunday i debated actually going, but went and it was so amazing. i got there in time to see the last 3 goldfinger songs, and find out that the drummer from the bloodhound gang was filling in for them (so i saw evil jared) and it was felly's birthday (the lead singer). everyone came on stage the next to last song and covered him with silly string and shit. he played the last song drenched. next was less than jake. they opened up with "all my friends are metalheads" and it was the shit. couple of circle pits and songs later, i decided to go up. i may have only crowd surfed for about 15-20 feet, but it was so awesome and felt like i was floating on air for 2 minutes. i went up again and again until they played my favorite ltj song, rest of my life. that was followed directly by the science of selling youself short and johnny quest thinks we're sellouts. overall, it was the best concert i've ever been a part of. next was dropkick murphys. naturally every other ginger in america was there, and half of them, were drunk. there were 2 really vicious circle pits going the entire concert and 5 feet of crowd in the middle where i decided to go crowd surfing once, just to get out of there right before the encore. i love the difference between crowd surfing during ltj and dkm. less than jake, everyone has their hands in the air already, so it's smooth sailing for the most part. like paddling a surfboard around in a pool. dropkick, everyone's drunk and not paying attention behind them, so you drop 3 feet every couple of seconds, and then are thrown around like you're a bout on The Deadliest Catch. never the less, it was all amazing.
today i worked for the ex-mayor for 4 hours just pulling nails out of wood and i got 40$ for it. he and his wife are very cool people. they said i could call them when i got back from europe and needed something to do with myself.
my friends then proceeded to go see Wanted without me...but whatever. johs, ben, and myself then ventured to brooklawn to eat at the diner (because pizza huts were closed.)
that's the one thing i'm going to miss about south jersey(with the exception of a couple of you)...fuckin diners out the ass. i mean, i'm sure there will be one up in north jersey that i'll go to religiously like an episode of seinfeld, and yeah i'm gunna have white castle, nathan's hot dogs, and other awesome shit. but i'm so gunna feel the urge to just walk to a diner at 3 in the morning, and my choices will be limited.
well, i'm done ranting. i'll talk to you all in the next week before i basicaly dissappear for the summer. shabat shalom.
