For Myaxx-mun, my brain returns with a prompt based off the words: "Tough. Music. And Watch." Set in the 10K-verse with Luckystar-verse mutant Kevin.
Music is supposed to soothe the savage beast, but it mostly just makes him uncomfortable. It pushes through the air; takes over rooms it's not even in.
You wouldn't think something the size of him could be taken down by a little Top 40, but there you go.
The worst part is: it's everywhere. It's on the TV, it comes flooding out of stores, it's on cell-phones. It even gets carried by passing vehicles. There's only so often he can bury his Vulpimancer arms beneath himself. Shutting his eyes helps a little, but isn't always appropriate.
The quills don't shed out. He's used to the light now, and almost used to the increase in gravity (although he still cannot fly), but the noise still bothers him. In a crowd of people he can hear everyone talking.
They're barely desensitized. They'll never be desensitized enough. He just doesn't need them anymore.
He's been putting it off for too long: they'll have to be pruned.
He's pretty sure she's been waiting for him to bring it up again. He sort of wishes she'd suggest it, but he doubts she'd dare after their talk about it. She'd thought it would be like getting a hair-cut. He wishes.
He'll have to be sedated; knocked out if possible. It will be like having a limb cut off and being blinded and deafened at the same time. He can take a lot, but that's a little much, even for him. And of course it's not something he's ever had done before. It could be even worse than all that.
But you have to do what you have to do. Kevin has spent too long not being able to live anything approaching a real life. He understands that there will be risks involved, but they are worth it. He has been given a chance, here, and he's not going to waste it.
She asks him if he wants her to be there with him: during the procedure.
He hates for her to see him as weak: he'll probably lash out, even unconsciously. He'll probably roar. His rational mind will be under, and only instinct will remain. It's something he's ashamed of.
But he tells her he wants her there.
If Gwen's face is the last thing he sees, Kevin thinks he would be fine with that.
