I'm a week out from my first proper cycling trip in Italy with the flatmate. It's an exciting and terrifying thought at the same time.
Exciting because this is why I started riding in the first place! I wanted to see the world on a bicycle. I thought and still do think it is a great way to get around. So much more environmentally friendly and exciting. Much as I love Hk, I really want to live in a city or place where I can ride everywhere.
Anyway, I digress. So why is it also a terrifying thought? Well, we are supposed to cover about 900 km in 7 days. Considering that my biggest ever consecutive days ride is probably something like 120 km, I'm not sure I will survive a week's worth of riding. And it's not going to be all flat. There will be mountains. Not hills, mountains. I'm definitely a better climber than I was when I first started riding but I don't know how long I can keep going uphill, especially when the gradients get more than 12 degrees. Most importantly, training has taken a hit because it's been raining in Hk and on the work front, a lot.
Oh well. It is after all supposed to be a holiday trip. I'm looking forward to the break, the amazing food and scenery and meeting up with the flatmate. :) When all fails, there will be the support vehicle and compression tights!
