Book Woe

Pseudo-woe, really.

So we have a couple of gift cards to Indigo and I've been checking books out from the library to test drive books before we decide to buy them. One card was given as a baby gift, so I'd like to use that for child-centered books.

There are a couple of herbal remedy books I've seen recommended for kids. It's difficult to know how much to give them, since their bodies are so much smaller than adults', so I'd like to get one. But just one.

The library carries neither of them, so the only test drive I can do is to look at a table of contents and whatever else the "Look Inside!" feature at amazon provides.

I'm leaning more towards the second rather than the first. I like photos and the seasonality of the layout (herbs are categorized by when they're in season). I'll have to take a closer look at the ToC of each book before I decide.

Book Whoa!

So like I said, I test drive books before I buy them. As such, I have several books on hold a the library at any given moment. Most of which, I have been on a waiting list for and I thought I would continue to be on a waiting list, considering I was, say #7 out of 10 or #11 out of 33. I checked on this YESTERDAY before heading to the library to pick up a book and drop off a few more. All was as it had been for several weeks, with the notable difference of my having added another 5 books to the list a couple of days ago.

Today, two books show up at the library, for which I just got notified. Went to my library account to check my holds, since the library, for some stupid reason, no longer includes the title of the newly arrived books in the notification email.

O_O

well, fuckity. I already have four books out and two waiting for me. Now I'll have another 7 or so arriving en masse by, like, Monday. Brilliant.

Most of them are parenting books and N said I'd have to neglect my kids to get through them all to decide which ones are keepers. Bah! :P

books, reading, research, conscious consumption, ack!
