the boy is getting to know the muppets. he LOVES mahna mahna. just LOVES IT. And the muppets bohemian rhapsody, which is what started it all. and Beaker. I now know more names of more muppets than I have ever known before (Zoot? that's the saxophonist in The Electric Mayhem. who knew? I didn't, but I do now!).
we spent some time yesterday and today looking at muppet stuff on youtube. today, I clicked on a 5-minute string of statler and waldorf clips. I didn't like it -- I found them rather violent (we don't watch tv, so he doesn't get exposed to anywhere near the same amount of casual violence that most kids his age experience on the screen). the two old men kept slugging each other about every third clip. I was unimpressed and the boy didn't seem interested anymore, so I clicked on something else (OMG Fraggle Rock theme!!!).
we're working hard to get him to understand that hitting is an unacceptable form of emotional expression, so watching muppets hit each other is just not a cool thing for him to see right now. blah!
I really don't understand violence in our culture. Ain't no way the boy'll see any Warner Bros. cartoons for a looong time. sheesh. those are AWFUL for violence.
