so... something went kaput yesterday on the display for my new-to-me powerbook.
misslynx and I have determined it to be one of the following:
a damaged inverter board
a burned out backlight
a broken backlight cable
I emailed the seller and, wonder of wonders, he's WILLING TO HELP! (I knew he was a good guy, but I wasn't expecting him to be THAT good!) So I need to call around for quotes. Does anyone have a preferred Mac repair place?
I know of ClickonMacs and will be calling them. But I would like to be able to call more than just the one place. Except that I don't know of any other places that aren't skeevy. CPUsed/BeamEcho is gone gone gone, so now I'm extra clueless.
Help?
TIA

Just called ClickonMacs and they said that with the 17" powerbooks, all three of the aforementioned potential problem components are in the screen, and the screen is sealed, so they would have to replace the entire screen. I was afraid of this. Price estimate is $600-$1000, which is ridiculous, since there is NOTHING WRONG with the screen itself. What a waste!
Ugh.
*mentally kicks something*

EDIT: Called iRepair on College/Palmerston and found a tech who had no problem servicing the display. He quited me either $160 or $600, depending on what the problem ended up being. I can certainly handle that, and I'll probably take the computer down tomorrow.
So let's all think 160, 160, 160, 160, 160, 160, 160, 160, k?
thx. :D
