I am expanding my repertoire of bad behaviour

last night, I had a Mars bar and half a Skor bar, all with no sugar crash (I ate cheese before and after, mind you, but that's part of the process). I started with the Skor, which I still love the taste of, but the smell of it really turned my stomach, so I gave up and moved on to the Mars bar. Mmmmmmmm.... Nougat.... It's funny how much smell ( Read more... )

You are absolutely right, and, honestly, I hadn't realised how close together the KitKat (Sunday afternoon) and the other candybars (Monday night) had been. I was kinda embarrassed when I noticed it. *cringe*

Tonight was yet another indulgence (a single scoop of homemade ice cream with pyralea) with seemingly no ill-effect, but it was well planned for and will be the last for at least a couple of weeks so that I can stabilise my blood glucose and whatever else gets affected by my eating sweets.

I haven't binged yet on anything particularly sweet. What I have problems with (and I wouldn't yet call them Problems, but it's definitely something I have to watch out for) are corn chips and corn. And, um, bananas. I manage to steer clear of potatoes and nearly anything grain-related -- I've had one small loaf of spelt-hempseed bread in the past 3 months and little bits of bready things on rare occasions, like the injera I had at the Ethiopean restaurant Friday night, but on the whole, I think I'm doing ok. Not perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm not having huge binges where I'm eating a whole bag of chips in a single sitting, either.

But you give sound advice, so... yeah. There shall be a hiatus on testing boundaries with sweet things for at least two weeks, and a whole month, if I can manage it. And I really need to be more careful with the corn stuffs. The banana-munchies should taper off, or it may end up being the one indulgence I can't manage to do without until my body completely rejects it. They're just so friggin' CHEAP! And Yummy! And they get tryptophan to my brain faster than anything else I'm eating, so they make me incredibly happy when I eat them. It's a vicious cycle.

Not so fond of bananas, myself, which is just as well. Plantains now....fried into little chips....NUMMY.

*sigh*

That's been our great indulgence lately. We know we're self-medicating, so we're trying to keep it to "safer" stuff. Oatmeal + raisins (until gone; we can't get the only kind of oatmeal we like in Canada, which is JUST as well...) with tons of cinnamon & cream (the fat in whipping cream helps slow the absorption of the carbs), fruit compotes (we've just developed another one using the canned sour cherries we sneaked across the border...we use the cherries plus some strawberries plus various nuts, spices, and a bit of butter, and it comes out tasting like cherry pie *YUM*) with whipped cream, and, of course, the omnipresent fried plantain....the skill of which we have perfected so that we end up making homemade plantain chips. Hot. Yummy.

At least we KNOW we're self-medicating...and we're trying to do it sanely...that's better, right? I hope...it should taper off in the next few weeks. It has in the past. If it doesn't, then we'll have to wean ourself off forcibly. If we can. Depression sucks.
