So half a day and a bad sunburn later...

So half a day and a bad sunburn later…

My car is fixed. We did way more work to check what might be wrong than we needed to. The fix took all of half a minute when it finally dawned on us, and was something painfully obvious especially after we ruled out the unpleasant stuff that would’ve cost an arm and a leg. Dad had actually checked the battery ground line and tightened it…but apparently not enough. We discovered this after spending the morning removing the starter and getting it tested, and the starter relays. At least it didn’t cost anything beyond time…

Another upside to the car trouble was I had to be out and about last night and today. Saw a fancy classic Shelby Cobra last night and a Dodge Viper this afternoon.

I’m not the only one dealing with car issues. Half a dozen people at work have had problems (most involve hail damage from the storm we had last month), and when I got back to my apartment and pulled in the drive, the landlord and a friend had his wife’s classic Mercedes pulled out of the garage and were trying to sort out why it wouldn’t start. Something involving the fuel line was as far as they’d narrowed it. Landlord took one look at me in my sunburned state and asked, “So where have you been?!” Upon explanation, the three of us talked shop, which was nice.

Came inside to air conditioning and the plan to sit down just a short while to recover, then tackle housework, but wound up sitting for quite a while, both because I just needed to sit and because I wound up talking to someone I haven’t spoken to in five years. Was nice to catch up, and surprising it happened at all.

Took a shower trying to placate my sunburn, got dinner set out, and wound up dozing off for about an hour. Just finished dinner and am trying to convince myself I should just a jump on housework tonight, so I can simply get groceries tomorrow and then spend time writing. I’m not being very convincing. Insomnia will probably be a stronger argument later tonight.
