Finally, a little time to update.
The war on Cassie's horrible flea infestation is over.  I treated her with Advantage II, and gave her a couple good flea-combings, and sprayed my room with Indoor/Outdoor Insect Spray (permethrin) while I was away housesitting so I'd be away from the fumes, and voila!  No fleas!  I'll continue to comb her every day to make sure none try to hitch a ride from outside (they drown really easily, so I comb her on the linoleum in the bathroom where it's hard for them to escape, then drown them).  I'd earlier tried Adams brand flea stuff, which made her sick and didn't do a thing to the fleas, so had to wait 30 days to use a new med.  Also had given her a bath, which was hysterical and went remarkably well for her never having done it before.  I think she's glad to be in out of the cold.
Hacking my way through DragonAge 2.  Like it almost as much as DragonAge Origins and Awakenings and their expansions.  The fighting is different, but I like the party members and their banter.  I don't like how you can't engage them in conversation whenever you want, or give them gifts like in Origins unless it's a specific gift that's plot-related.  You also can't switch up their armor or gear to protect them better like you could in Origins.  Dan and I haven't been playing the RPG; we've done two sessions, and I haven't gotten all of the second typed up yet, so I haven't wanted to do a third yet; rumors are flying that there's a third leveling pack coming out soon, too, so I'm falling behind...hope they come out with another book of campaigns, too.
Dan decided this weekend he wanted to make me two more shelves for my oak bookcase, since he pulled all of his movies off it so I could put some of my books back on it.  He's been borrowing it since I moved things out of my storage locker and to Grandma's since I didn't want it getting damaged out in the barn.  My entire Star Wars series barely fits, so the two new shelves will add some breathing room.  It's been very cold this weekend, so the varnish isn't drying very fast.  Had it been warmer, they would be done and in the bookcase.  As things stand, they're stained, and the first coat of varnish is on one side and the edges of both.  I need to sand today and add the second coat, then once that's dry over the next couple of days I need to flip them over and do the other side.  I remember doing this with Dad in this weather when I was younger and had purchased the bookcase the shelves are going into and the matching desk.  I actually remembered the stain and its color, too, after all these years.
Got the irises I ordered from Schreiners planted about two weeks ago...still need to mulch my flower bed for winter.  But I'm looking at the quickly approaching end of October, wondering when layoff is.  I haven't heard yet, and it's making me nervous.  I got Bobcat training and a hooded sweatshirt, which implies I'm staying longer, but one of the people I work with got her notice that she's on layoff as of the 17th.  This year, I can't apply for unemployment if I wanted to (and like people pushed me about last year); there's a new law in effect that if you know you're seasonal, you no longer qualify because "you're perfectly capable of finding another job since you know you're going to be on layoff".  This is despite the fact I've been full-time hired at Bennett's, because it's a "seasonal employer" according to the unemployment office.  One of the ladies and Bennett's had to go TO COURT to get them to deny this claim over her employment, and say yes, she's full time regardless.  This is frustrating--I pay into it all year every year.  It's MY MONEY they're refusing me access to because I obviously don't deserve it.  *argh*
I managed to survive without applying last winter, and hope to again (or find a better job), but the way last year was I'm not holding out hope.
Slowly hacking my way through my reading list.  It's still sitting at about 160 books to go...I keep adding one here and there, and that's counteracting productivity.
Cassie's sprawled on the end of my bed purring her heart out.
Better go.  Varnish, cross stitch, laundry, car payment, and letter to Ian all to do today.
