I went to the Barack Obama rally last night.

I know I have a lot of disparate political beliefs on my flist, so I'm using an LJ-cut so no one has to read this if they don't want to. :)

I didn't get to head to campus until around 8pm due to D.'s work and A.'s work. So, by the time we got there, the line was craaazy...the first thing we saw upon reaching campus was two of our friends leaving due to the line. I see one of them Saturday, and I shall have to pick on him for wussing out. ;)

However, we are insane, and we stayed. I had been hanging out with fleabear earlier in the evening, and I called her once we got into line, to see where she was. Turns out she was about 20 feet ahead of me in line. LOL! So she came back and joined us, having temporarily misplaced archaeopterxy. Also present were a woman from A's work and her husband. Small world: I've met the husband, though he didn't recognize me. I carried on a brief and mild flirtation with him when I was a freshman in college, back in the Stone Age. He's a cool guy.

The line snaked all over Mizzou's campus, but moved relatively quickly after a while. It sounded like there were preliminary speeches going on, but we missed them. We did get to see Obama's motorcade coming up Rollins and heading toward the south quad, followed by big-ass media buses. We reached the quad just as Obama was taking the stage; they didn't play City of Blinding Lights this time. Sounded like a Bruce Springsteen song.

We couldn't see much. There was a sea of people blocking the view of the stage, and while there was a screen near us, it was sort of behind a tree. But we did get to hear the whole thing loud and clear, and the energy was great. Obama was in fine snarky form and cracked some jokes. The biggest cheers of the night had to do with ending the war. I noticed that got the best response at Jill Biden's rally earlier in the month, too.

It was a good time, and I'm glad I went. The line was crazy but everyone was enthusiastic and happy, and once we got onto the quad, everyone was even more enthusiastic and happy. It was cool to be a part of that energy.

I still can't wait till this election is over, though. ;)

In other news, while I was writing this post, my desktop computer completely fried itself. We think it's the power supply. Pain in the ass, but we've dealt with it before on the older machine. For once, LJ's saved draft feature worked just the way I needed it to!

computer woes, friends, obama, politics
