Ice Storm

Well, we're back home safe and sound after evacuating our house Saturday evening. We lost power Saturday afternoon, and some large limbs fell behind the cars (one miraculously missing the Taurus by less than two feet, even though it some how bent the radio antenna), effectively trapping us since we don't have a chainsaw. My father-in-law, Bob, came with his chainsaw and rescued us, allowing us to stay at his house in Muskogee since he had power. We also had a branch poke through the side of the house into the attic, although it is not affecting the inside of the house (for now, we'll see what happens when all this ice starts melting), and smash the fence both in the front and in the back. There's also a rather large branch resting on the line that brings power from the pole to the house, so we may lose power again if that thing decides to come on down.

Anyway, we came back home today since the electricity has been restored. The amount of clean-up from this storm is going to be massive. I'm not looking forward to clearing the tons of branches from the yard.

Here a couple of pics from the damage in Muskogee, one of the worst hit places. I'll get some pictures of the damage to our house in the day light tomorrow, and post some video soon.

This is a tree in front of Bob and Sheila's house in Muskogee. I'm taking it through the windshield of our car. Look at the amount of ice on that thing!

Will is helping an elderly neighbor get into her car. There was so much ice on the car that he had to hit it really hard and it would shatter.

Edit: replaced images with smaller versions.
