Totally scary.
Good for you Kayla, spreading the word about this. I find it sad that so far, you are the only person on my flist (facebook) who is talking about this.

It's really not just an American thing because I know that Canada tends to follow the US with crazy laws like this and here in Germany, they are trying to do something similar - except there is nothing we can do here to stop them. The government can just push laws through with no chance for the average person to fight. The world is getting to be a scary place.

Yeah I've contacted my representative like five times now because for a while there was this really obnoxious banner than would pop up about it every time I logged onto eztv. Even if you'd already done it, that damn banner would still pop up. NO BUT OMFG REMEMBER THIS FROM LIKE A YEAR AGO?!?!?! And I wrote my senator and whoever read it sent me an auto-generated reply for the piracy bill or whatever. And it was obvious they didn't even fucking read it because they're like YES WE AGREE WITH YOU PIRACY IS WRONG AND WE WILL SUPPORT THIS BILL.

And I'm like.

Fuck youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.

If I'm gonna make the effort to actually get involved, they're not even going to listen? Dicks.

And I'm surprised that they never learned from that whole thing. This thing crashed and burned a year ago BEFORE it went viral. Now they're trying it again and they've likely got messages flooding their inboxes and the phone's going crazy and there's bad publicity stamped all over this. Although I'm sure they at least get the message now since they're probably ( ... )

Oh and I guess here at least there isn't this. Which is quite possibly the most horrendous and blatant instance of electoral fraud I have ever seen in my life. And apparently in Russia, this is entirely okay.

But I thought to link it because it DOES AFFECT US AS LIVEJOURNAL USERS because these are the dicks responsible for us not being able to spread our own viral political opinions because these assholes can't find some other way to quash the dissidents without DDoSing the entire site.

Oh my god there are so many other incidents and links I was ready to go post but those were the first few things that came to mind. Plus, this entry had turned into this like gigantic, seething, condescending bitchfest where I did nothing but trash every apathetic jerkoff who does nothing but complain about America while refusing to pay attention to politics. And I decided to cut it down haha. Like, ugh. I know it's futile most of the time and I get that, but take your fucking head out of your ass and pay attention every now and then. It's like all the people who don't vote but then complain about the president? If you don't like the president, whatever, you don't have to--but don't bitch if you didn't even try. I have such a problem with it, seriously. It makes me so mad and embarrassed to be American. Like the idiots I see who hate on America the most are the ones with the least grasp on what's actually going on in the world.

I feel like such a douche because every chance I've gotten to vote in the presidency I've never actually 'voted' per se, I always just write in DAVE MUSTAINE because I've never really liked either candidate all that much. And I'm too much of a stuffy old codger to accept the fact that in AMERICA of all places, we're reduced to choosing the lesser of two evils. I feel kind of cheated I guess, having come here thinking it was one thing and after a while I realise that it was all just false advertisement.

This coming from a person whose home country is led by a guy who was elected simply because he had NO RUNNING MATES LOL but, I mean. At least he's a good president and actually deserved it. And likely would have won the election even if he had a running mate.

No but I think next time I find myself with a ballot, I'll actually choose someone that's already on there. I'll just wear my Dave Mustaine for President shirt or something.

omg lol. That's fantastic though.

But again, you're not really the type of person I'm talking about because you actually know what's going on. I'm sick of seeing entitled assholes preach about how they're gonna move to Europe all the time because AMERICA SUCKS!!!11!1

And I understand the things they're saying, because I've had a fair amount of disinterest and unhappiness here as well and I get it, but the answer isn't to just ignore politics and act like you're cooler because of it. Fucking do something about it.

Thank you so much for this.

I love how in the Stephen Colbert clip, the supporter for SOPA (Danny Goldberg) said absolutely NOTHING AT ALL that would convince people why this law is a good idea - he just giggled and spewed a bunch of other bullshit. The guy who opposes the bill actually said something useful that made sense. So, guy who says bill is a good idea? Doesn't say anything worthwhile. Guy who says bill is a bad idea? Has some good points on the matter.

This should tell us something.
