Title: Just Us
Fandom: Prince of Tennis
Pairing: Tezuka/Fuji
Theme set: C
Rating: G
Warning[s]: This was written almost entirely around one in the morning; don't expect a lot from it. Also, unproofed.
#01 - Beautiful
Fuji spends his time in class drawing Tezuka, though he suspects that his memory might not be exactly right because it's been a while since they last met face to face.
#02 - Heart
Tezuka didn't expect Fuji to email him that day and he definitely didn't expect to get ten pictures of notebook paper covered with sketches of himself.
#03 - Smile
Tezuka can't help but smile at his own pathetic attempts at drawing Fuji, but he sends them over anyways.
#04 - Feeling
"Not now," Fuji tells his classmates when they want to go to the arcade, "I'm not in the mood right now" and he doesn't tell them that he had been planning to call Tezuka at around that time.
#05 - Knowledge
Tezuka thinks that he knows Fuji well enough to not be surprised by calls at five in the morning-but there are no calls.
#06 - Ageless
"I told Yuuta what you said about having to work hard," Fuji told Tezuka over the phone, "And he said that that guy must be right and you must be at least forty."
#07 - Time
Fuji likes to pretend sometimes that he and Tezuka will be together forever but somehow reality always sneaks its way into his daydreams.
#08 - Desire
I miss you, Tezuka's email said.
#09 - Dramatic
Fuji left with a bang, Oishi told Tezuka, announcing all in one day that he was dropping out of high school, that he had gotten accepted to an art college in Chiba, that he had already arranged for an apartment, that he was gay, and that he'd already gotten a job.
#10 - Subdued
Fuji was curled up on his bed in his apartment, and trying not to think about how betrayed Mother and Yuuta and Eiji and everyone else had looked, when Tezuka called.
#11 - Gold
Tezuka didn't think he could do what Fuji had done, so he sent a plain gold ring to Fuji.
#12 - Silver
Fuji responded by sending it back with a note that said, Hold this for me for a while-I'll take it back later.
#13 - Dark
Fuji once mentioned in an email that he liked closing his blinds and hiding under the blankets when the sun came up so Tezuka pulled a blanket over his head and was ten minutes late to class.
#14 - Light
Alternatively, Tezuka had said that tardiness was stupid, so Fuji grudgingly woke up and was ten minutes early.
#15 - Twilight
Fuji's job ended around eight and that meant that it was still light when he went home in summertime.
#16 - Dawn
After the first time, Fuji decided that Tezuka was stupid and so he nestled into his blankets and went back to sleep.
#17 - Power
"Your serve is too weak," Fuji says over the phone and Tezuka has no idea what he's talking about.
#18 - Protect
"Yuuta's seriously annoyed with you," Tezuka tells Fuji and Fuji laughs, because Tezuka is the last person Yuuta would talk to about Fuji.
#19 - Courage
"We all do stupid things, Tezuka," Fuji says, "Courage is knowing that it's stupid and doing it anyways; or maybe that's just stupidity."
#20 - Faith
Their phone calls grew less frequent as did their emails as Tezuka's training schedule grew frenzied in preparation for the summer season and as Fuji found himself enrolled in too many classes with too many projects.
#21 - Pray
In February, Tezuka learns that his classes let out in June and that he has a week in Japan before the tournaments start, but he doesn't tell Fuji until March.
#22 - Intensity
Fuji had gone back to Tokyo to meet him, but Tezuka can't see him until three days after he gets back to Japan, so Fuji waits.
#23 - Cool
Tezuka walks into the coffee shop and lets the cool air wash over him before looking for Fuji.
#24 - Warm
Fuji's eyes are on him but Fuji's face is a mask.
#25 - Whisper
Tezuka walks over to Fuji's table, but neither of them can say anything.
#26 - Secret
Finally, Fuji whispers, "Welcome home," his voice as quiet as if he was telling a secret.
#27 - Promise
"I'm back," Tezuka said, nothing more.
#28 - Strength
Tezuka thinks that Fuji's matured in the year since he last saw him and he wonders if he can keep up.
#29 - Weakness
Fuji wonders if Tezuka can see how tense he is or if he can hide it well enough that Tezuka can't even notice anymore.
#30 - Love
They talk about many things that day; love is not one of them because some things don't need saying.
#31 - Hate
When Tezuka came back, Fuji isn't sure if they're still maybe together or if Tezuka is already together together with someone else.
#32 - Silence
Tezuka doesn't say anything when Fuji asks and Fuji has only a very quick moment to think bitterly that Tezuka just won't tell him 'I love you' before Tezuka's lips are on his own.
#33 - Distress
Tezuka pulls Fuji closer after they finish the kiss and doesn’t look into Fuji's eyes because he's afraid he did the wrong thing.
#34 - Fate
Fuji thinks that Tezuka's an idiot sometimes, but at times like these, when their bodies are so close, Tezuka is just his.
#35 - Fortune
Tezuka blanches when they go past the first full size poster of Fuji; by the time they get to Tezuka's house, they have walked past ten of them and Fuji has explained that he really was a bit short on money that year.
#36 - Nightmare
Fuji wakes with a start and a gasp and he wishes that Tezuka could be there.
#37 - Justice
The next morning, Tezuka found Fuji on his bed and he had absolutely no idea how Fuji got into his room without waking someone.
#38 - Death
There were whispers, aunties asking each other how that boy could dare to come to his grandfather's funeral, but Fuji didn't hear because he was too busy crying and Tezuka had whispered condolences in his ear the entire time.
#39 - Moon
That night, Tezuka sat with Fuji under the moon, both delaying their separation and his own return home.
#40 - Sun
That morning, Tezuka called Fuji and told him that Mother and Father wanted to meet him.
#41 - Star
The meeting went well, Tezuka thought, for all that Fuji was still upset about his grandfather and for all that Mother and Father were both very upset about their precious son being gay.
#42 - Tower
Fuji says, when Tezuka is about to leave, that he is going to be climbing up a tower and that he has to be careful not to fall; Tezuka has no idea what he is talking about.
#43 - Stranger
At his art college, Fuji is well aware of the fact that all of his fellow students baby him and he doesn't think that they know that he babies them back.
#44 - Familiar
Fuji had to go online to find just which tournaments Tezuka was playing in; he as not at all prepared to see Tezuka's name on the pro circuit already.
#45 - Forgotten
It was sent on a whim, the key stuffed into an envelope and addressed to one "Kunimitsu Tezuka" in New York City, but it still hurt when Tezuka didn't even send a letter back.
#46 - Memory
Fuji closed his eyes and remembered being together, all of them, in Seigaku, and he wished he could go back.
#47 - Change
Fuji himself reached further than most people thought he could; he was in his first major art show only a few months after Tezuka went pro.
#48 - Color
Tezuka stared at the door to Fuji's apartment, wondering just why the landlord would let Fuji paint it a vibrant blue.
#49 - Shadow
The shadows crept up and Tezuka didn't turn on the lights, just sat there and waited.
#50 - Breath
Fuji didn't expect to see Tezuka when he got home after his show and for a moment, he forgot how to breathe.
