There was a flurry of excitement and anticipation among many dedicated
scanners and validators on August 3, 2007 when the Volunteer Manual was
posted to the Bookshare.org website. For the first time reference material
was available to answer many questions volunteers had been asking for years.

Next Tuesday during our Friends of Bookshare forum, we will have the
opportunity to talk with John Glass, Jake Brownell's and Gerald Hovas
, the three Benetech staff members who were primarily responsible for
completing this complicated task. Their work demonstrates many hours of
careful planning, data gathering and compilation. A document of this scope
just doesn't happen by accident.

However, it is recognized that the manual is still a work in progress. So
the men have asked that each of us read the manual again very carefully and
be prepared to make constructive suggestions for its improvement.
