http://www.wellandgood.com/good-food/eating-healthy-on-food-stamps-budget/ So articles like this piss me off because they really do not address the issues of food insecurity at all. Instead they set an impossible or nearly so goal and show how the poster has no freaking clue about shopping on a budget, food prep or stretching one's resources. Could I eat healthy for a week on $28? Yes, but I would not have purchased thinly sliced chicken breast, avocado or shrimp instead of salmon. I wouldn't even considered almond butter. Oh and organic eggs? What BS. Organic is not in the cards on SNAP.
Long story short this is really a fluff piece pretending to care about the health of folks on SNAP aimed at making the reader feel informed without doing so.
What a waste of damn pixels.
If you need help or want to understand food insecurity contact
211.org or your local Food Bank. They are on the front lines of food scarcity and they will tell exactly what's going on.
Grrrrrr.
