I have now moved across The Golden Horn from the new city to the old city (both in Europe) to a small hotel within walking distance of the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace. The internet connection is a little faster so I was able to upload some pictures.
Went to the Archeology Museums this afternoon. Took a wrong turn and walked all over the palace grounds before I found them.
On the walk back to the hotel I ate at an Ottoman restaurant. Mete', the tour guide, had told me that this was more like the food Turks ate at home. At the front of the restaurant a lady was rolling dough and making fresh pita bread. Along both side walls there was a carpeted platform with cushions, but I thought my big tush would be more comfortable in a chair, so I chose a table in the middle of the room.
Turks think nothing of serving two or three starches on the same plate, so my main dish came with bread, rice and french fries. Fillet around spinach turned out to be thin strips of steak rolled around spinach with a thick sauce with capers. Don't know what was in the sauce but it was good!
Then walked a little and bought some baklava-type pastries for dessert. Perfect ending for a great day.
