Actually, I have no idea how I pulled it off, but I "woke up" after said 1.5 hours sleep at 6am and felt shocky and nauseous until 8, when the orange juice and bread I forced down for breakfast kicked in. Why, you ask? Because I was an idiot and agreed to go on a day-trip tour of the Federal Reserve in LA with my gran that started at the crack of bloody dawn, or near enough. I wasted $20 on new seaband wrist straps and ginger gum to avoid motion sickness from the bus, since I forgot my old straps at home. I dozed fitfully on and off through the experience, when I wasn't being poked awake to look at some feature of the LA skyline I'd already seen and dismissed as unimportant. And I missed lunch, mostly because the baggie of rice chex I brought (because there was no way Philipes French Dipped Sammiches had a dairy-free menu, which is where we did lunch) fell on the sawdust-covered floor and was lost to me.
The tours themselves were disappointing. The reserve was interesting, but there was no gift shop or anything, and I had to leave all my stuff on the bus. After the reserve and lunch, I learned it wasn't just the reserve we were visiting, but other places too, which weren't any better. The Wells Fargo museum, for instance, was just one room of artefacts from the coach wagons, and a very promotional historic movie. No gift shop to peruse and buy things at. And what use is touring the LA library if your tour guide has an accent so thick you can't understand her, especially with the vaulted ceilings in most of the building, and you're not allowed to break off and read any of the books? I didn't get to go in that gift shop either. Bah.
Home around 6 at last, but the day wasn't done. I had to go get gas, but the first Costco I went to had its station closed today, so after finally getting something to eat at In n Out, I drove across Irvine to the other Costco, got gas, but failed in procuring the third objective of my night, which was movie tickets at cheap prices. Because the Costco had closed half an hour previous. Ugh.
Back home. exhausted. sleeping now.
