View the New Doctor Who Trailer on Youtube Initial first thoughts:
OMG.
...huh. wtf?
...SQUEE.
Alright, so it's not the minute of new, unreleased footage that we all hoped for. I imagine that trailer will be somewhere down the line - only 42 days to go! But it's something at least, and it is certainly a work of art from the Mill.
For someone my age, yeah, it kinda looks a little cheesy when you watch it the first time. But after a few more viewings, your mind works past the wtf moment, and settles into a happy nest of oozy anticipatory squee.
Watching this, though it doesn't appear at first glance, I can definitely imagine Matt-as-Eleven as River's Doctor - the one who snaps the Tardis doors open, who makes whole armies turn and flee. It sends shivers up my spine so wonderfully. Also, I keep sensing a sort of Ace-and-Seven vibe from he and Amy, for some reason. Maybe it's the clothes.
I do like the music playing. I'm betting it's Amy's theme somehow.
Overall, I liked it. Especially the Doctor's last line. "All of time and space. Everywhere and anywhere; every star that ever was. Where d'you wanna start?" As soon as the trailer makes a few days rounds, I'm using that for something. That is an awesome line.
I only have two points of 'hm, prolly not' to address. One - the shot of the Doctor when he says, "I'm the Doctor": Sorry, but that's not the best angle of view for Matt. He's cute, but weird-looking sometimes. And Two - I think the trailer should have ended with a slow zoom out and the music that was playing, back into the stars, with the peaceful laying on the grass undisturbed as it was in the beginning. I realize the trailer was shot for showing in 3D settings in cinemas, which is probably the reason for the giant Silurian head, but it just doesn't work for me. It feels unnecessary.
So, overall score? 6/10 with a 2 point curve. The first trailer was an 8/10. I like to leave the top two scores open for potential uber!win situations.
*goes to watch it again, gleefully*
