[training] anti-dance thp, part two

Sep 12, 2006 00:12

Monday...
So, random food thing: I had a pretty exhausting weekend - 5 hrs of training & 3 hrs of dance workshop, and not surprisingly ended with me enjoying a major sugar craving this morning that you think would've ended in some kinda crash. Mostly, it's that wired/tired feeling. Crash? Maybe tomorrow.

Last night I came back from dancing in DC starving and with guests already at my place. Which is a shame, because the compensation would've been good after the dancing and sitting (argh, two things that do not taste great together).

Anyhow, tonight we taught two hour-long beginner classes. After, I did the 2 sets of 5 thing, but combined the standing to squat to roll to squat thing. Except... I didn't. Couldn't get up - it was surprisingly painful coming back to squatting, even when I tried breaking up the two pieces again. Felt like muscle tension behind & on top of my knees, like I couldn't get my calves and thighs quite so folded as usual?

Both of the lower torso things (slight roll to bridge and the perplexingly difficult pick-both-feet-up challenge) both had mini-breakthroughs, moments of "aha! I think this is how this movement works!" that turned into smoother, larger & better coordinated movements.

RPE: 6
RPD: 3 (probably a 6-7 coming up from squatting)
RPT: 8

I also tried the hammer swing with the 25 lb club, and there was a general uproar from the whole spinal area - just, OW. It was more all-over than it was sharp and awful, but very very very uncomfortable. I went back and carefully did the movement with a 5, though, and it went back to feeling really good. Tried the 25 again and OW. Back to the 5, all better. I'll do it again tomorrow, when I plan to be much less exhausted.

Oh, yeah... food:
breakfast - spinach & egg souffle, orange juice and chocolate croissant
lunch - salad of spinach, egg, baby corn, tomatoes, kidney beans, broccoli and cottage cheese. also a green tea
dinner - ramen noodle soup with peanut butter, shrimp & bamboo shoots
late-night - one steak taco

Tuesday...
Once again, I attempted the hammer swing... and I actually can't do it at all tonight. I just freeze with it halfway behind my body. I think it may be a lack of spinal flexibility post-dance. It could also be a failure of my "much less exhausted" plan.

Right after dancing, did 2 sets of 5:
RPE: 6
RPD: 4 (the spinal thing started affecting everything)
RPT: 8

breakfast - 2 bananas, bagel with cream cheese
lunch - piece of brazilianish steak, snap peas, green beens in alfredo sauce, assortment of marinated antipastoy veggies, grapes & blueberries. and a creme brulee.
dinner - tofurkey sammich on big fluffy crusty wheat bread with swiss, dressing, tomato, spinach, carrot & avocado, plus probably more (wholesome & organic, whatever) chips than I've eaten in a month. and raspberries.
