I can't believe I haven't properly complained about finals here yet this semester. I guess I feel they were only an interesting topic to write about once, and most of my readers have finals and know that they entail. So suffice to say, the context of this entry is that I'm super stressed, and have a crazy, hectic, hellish schedule for the next two weeks.
I was on about my 20th straight hour of working on a take home exam this morning, when I decided I couldn't take it amymore and I had to take a brief break to get up, walk around, get a drink, just do something other than sit in that chair and stare back and forth between my Laptop, and my First Amendment textbook. So I get up and go to the railing outside the library, and look down. The entrance to the Seton Hall Law library is on the 4th floor, at this point, I'm looking down an uninterrupted, 4 story drop to the tile floor of the atrium below. I'm not thinking about diving at that particular moment, but I have to be honest, in the midst of the pressures of finals week, the thought does cross your mind.
As if reading my restless thoughts, I focus on whats going on in the atrium below, and I notice a bunch of people milling around with donuts, and little plastic cups of coffee, bearing all the earmarks of some generous benefactor (probably the SBA) having provided free sugary stuff. Apparently a free donut was all it took to make me like life again. I finished that take home exam shortly thereafter, and now I'm debating how badly I need to study Evidence today.
There's nothing really remarkable about free stuff in the atrium during finals week. It happens all the time. This just got me because of the timing. I didn't even know it was happening until right at the moment I needed it. Hey, I get a kick out of simple things.
