Rome for Christmas

Dec 28, 2006 20:33

okey, so i went to Rome for Christmas. joe from work went with.  it was pretty cool.  i really loved the Colosseum.
we saw the catacombs which were beyond creepy and also had midnight mass at St. Giovanni's Basilica.
we went to the vatican on Christmas day for the Pope's noon blessing.
that was pretty cool too.  there were people everywhere. the crazy part about Christmas day is that public transportation was open in the morning, so everyone could get around but it all closed down at noon, so everyone who went to hear the Pope was S.O.L as far as a ride home unless they grabbed a cab. the really ironic part was that after having just listened to the Pope, ppl were fighting over cabs. fighting to the point that the police had to break it up. that same day we saw the Spanish Stairs, Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon.

we ended up walking from one side of Rome to the other but it was fun. the next day we went back to the Vatican and saw the museum and St Peter's Basillica.  the museum had some really cool things in it.  it's probably not appropriate to say, but i didn't think the Sistine Chapel looked any better than most of what i saw in the museum. the pics of the Sistine Chapel aren't technically legal seeing as there are no photos allowed, but hey, i didn't use a flash and i didn't aim the camera, i just pointed and clicked.

after that we headed to the airport and i got in this morning at about 2:45 grabbed a few hours sleep and now i'm home for the day chilling out.  i opened my christmas presents from home and took a couple hour nap and did some laundry, ate dinner and am about to crash once more.

g'nite
