Rarewomen 2013 Letter
Dear Rarewomen author,
First, thank you so much for signing up to participate in this exchange! I appreciate you taking the time to do this, and will love any fic you write for me. I love gen, f/f and f/m, action, crazy adventures, fluff, tag/gap fic, found families, mysteries, and ladies getting shit done. The main squicks I have are no dub/non-con, no incest, and no cheating on partners. I do love me some crossovers, but only if they make sense (which given the fandoms I'm requesting, I'm not quite sure but kudos if you make it work).
Here be the fandoms and the ladies:
Fandom #1: The Toby Daye Series
Characters: May Daye, Jazz, April O'Leary, January O'Leary
Request: The Toby Daye Series has quickly become one of my favorite book series since picking them up last summer. I love Toby, but I also love all the other characters and would love to see things from their points of view. With May and Jazz, I would adore backstory as to how they met, or how they make things work with having different sleep schedules. Toby alludes to it, but we really don't get to see too much of it. I would love romance and cuddles and working things out like adults.
For January and April (and Li Qin if you've read Ashes of Honor and want to include her), I would love to see the period before everything started going to hell at ALH. Early courtship between Li Qin and Jan, or Jan's early days of being a Countess or the early days post-adopting April are what I would adore for these characters. If you just want to tackle April, then maybe something shortly after A Local Habitation, where she's adjusting to being a Countess and coming to terms with her actions.
Fandom #2: Spiritwalker Trilogy
Characters: Catherine Hassi Barahal, Beatrice Hassi Barahal
Request: I would love pre-series fic with this request. We meet Cat and Bee, and they're already each other's person to steal a phrase from Grey's. I'd love fic where they're young and learning each other's edges and boundaries. Them getting into all the trouble we know they did, both at home and at school. Training to be spies, gossiping while sewing at home, sneaking around, anything. When did Bee start getting her dreams? When did Cat discover she could bend the shadows and hide from people? I really want fic where they start exploring themselves and discovering who they are as people, as well as being badass lady cousins.
Fandom #3: Old Kingdom - Garth Nix
Characters: Sabriel, Lirael
Request: With this fandom, there are a couple of different things that I would enjoy. One is the mentoring between Sabriel and Lirael after the end of Abhorsen. They just discovered they're family, and while Lirael has had time with her nephew Sam, she hasn't really gotten to know her new-found half-sister. Awkward conversations, training montages, Lirael adjusting to being a part of a new family would all be great.
Or, just as welcome, would be gap/tag fic with the two of them separately. With Sabriel, maybe fic covering the period of re-founding the Old Kingdom between the books Sabriel and Lirael. What were those struggles? Or maybe things with her and Touchstone? With Lirael, all the adventures with her and the Disreputable Dog in the Library. We see them fighting the Silken, but the book alludes to other adventures. Just what might they have been?
Fandom:Star Wars (all media types)
Characters: Siri Tachi, Adi Gallia, Mara Jade, Mirax Terrik, Gara Petothel
Request: Star Wars is my first fandom love, and I adore all the ladies here.
For Siri and Adi, fic with them either when Siri is Adi's Padawan or during the Clone Wars. I would love to see how their partnership and relationship has evolved over the years, as well as any adventures they might have been on. It's been ages since I've read the Jedi Apprentice books, but I remember them being a pretty fantastic team.
With Mirax and Mara Jade, a couple of things. I would love fic of them individually before we meet them. Mirax lost her father to Kessel, and then built up her own business. What was that like? Or maybe something during the Thrawn campaign, where she was working to get supplies to those who needed them? Guest appearances by Wedge and Corran more than welcome. With Mara, I would love anything set in the Original Trilogy. We get some sense of her duties during Allegiance and Choices of One, but what about her training? Other assignments? Guest appearances by Darth Vader welcome. Or you could have the epic adventures of Mara and Mirax, when Mara was crewing with Mirax later on in the EU, and all the crazy adventures they got into.
Gara/Lara/Kirney is a character near and dear to my heart, and I would adore fic with her post-Solo Command, after she's assumed the Kirney identity and starting to establish herself on Corelia. Her trying to find her place, sorting herself out in her head, reuniting with Myn, crazy adventures with Kolot and Tonin would all be welcome and appreciated.
I hope that makes sense. It's a little hard to articulate what I want other than massive flailing about awesome ladies.
