Hmmmm... I'm confused.

So I went to the lab to get some blood drawn today. I have to do this on a regular basis, and the girls in the lab (as well as the ladies in the pharmacy) know my face these days. So, at the advice of many people, and because I don't see my drs as often as I get bloodwork done, I put on the lab slip to send a copy of the results to me as well as the dr. Well, evidently if the dr doesn't order that I'm supposed to recieve a copy, then the lab can't forward me a copy. So instead, I have to go to my dr's office and request copies, which they take 2-10 business days to gather together, then I have to go BACK to the office, sign a second release form (third, actually, if you count the one that I signed when I filled out my new patient paperwork.....) and pay them $1/page for my results. now how does this make sense?

I went to Wal Mart after the lab... I actually had someone with me that occupied Heather, so, amazingly I got in and got everything I needed in less than an hour. Actually, I think I was only in there for about 20 minutes, and that included a turn through the yarn section.... Still, it never ceases to amaze me that A) Wal Mart never seems to have the things I actually need in stock, B) They always have at least 70% of the aisles that I need to go down blocked by stockers carts that are full of unstocked product, C) 90% of the people shopping in Wal Mart will stand in front of you, blocking your way even when you, very nicely, say "excuse me", and D) that those very same people get incredibly pissed if you either say "excuse me" or take it upon yourself to just move their buggy slightly after them ignoring your 4 polite "excuse me's." However, since I wasn't dealing with the small child, I managed to get through the store with a smile still on my face. Amazing how that works. I wasn't nearly as agitated as I am when I have one (or both) of the girls. And, wonder of wonders, I was able to walk right up to a register when I was done  - she had actually closed, and re-opened when I walked by, waving me in. Then that cashier, and the 2 around her were extremely friendly, going so far as not only telling us where Chili's was (shut up. I never eat at Chili's, although once they told me where it was, I remembered.) but also gave us the name of a waitress who they promised would take care of us.

So we left and headed out to lunch. On the way to Chili's, we passed Chevy's. It was mentioned that that might be nice to try, so I whipped over into the turning lane. Neither of us had ever eaten there, but I figured there was no way it could be worse than Chili's (not that there's anything wrong with Chili's - it's just not my idea of fine dining.). Glad we stopped in - the food, the staff and the sweet tea were beyond good. I expected food that was mediocre, at best, and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived and was all fresh, made on premises. The salsa..... I could bring bottles of it home and practically drink it! And the chili rellenos were huge, real and very, very tasty. To say that our expectations were met is an understatement - they were far exceeded! And our server, Tricia, was a delight!

So, yeah, so far, not a horrible day. Oh, and the phlebotomist that drew my blood was very curious about my cancer, so I got to educate someone on it, something that I feel very strongly about doing, but don't want to be overbearing about. So yeah. Good things happened today.

thyroid cancer, phlebotomist, medical records, chili's, wal mart, labs, annoyances, chevy's, bloodwork
