College Hunting 2004: Applying Myself

Sep 29, 2004 16:25

So I stayed home again today because I still had a temperature and a cold and had gotten no sleep last night due to my staying in bed most of yesterday. So rather than have me fall asleep in yet another class and get a phone call about it later, M.S reluctantly let me stay home. But I did make the most of it. I made some major headway on the college front. I now plan to apply to the following schools: Hofstra, Manhatanville, Suny Albany, Loyola of Maryland, Catholic U, Fordham, Bc, and Swarthmore. I've seen all these schools except Catholic U (registered for open house this weekend) and Swarthmore. Swarthmore's my dad's favorite school. He thinks I'll be perfedct there because, amoung other things, it's a very academic and very liberal school. Thanks Dad! He's personally going to take me down to Pennsylvania to see it which is a first since we've never gone on a college tour without Mom. Not exactly a bad thing though. I think I'll major in History with a minor in secondary ed or however that goes. I love English but that's way to many papers to mark and Sat sheets to go over. Besides, I kind of like History better though this may surprise some of you. I've allways loved learning when things happened and where and why. My favorite teacher ever was Mr. Marchetta, my eighth grade Honors Social Studies teacher who taught history by getting the whole class involved in debates and bringing in movies to make time periods more clear. I want to do something like that. So that's a lot off my mind. I also learned today that six of my chosen schools accept The Common Aplication and you can do that online. So I got on and filled out half the thing. I even chose my essay topic. So things are looking pretty good where college is concerned. I should be back tomorrow. Thanks for all the get well posts guys.
