Yup, here's the last three days.
Friday: got up and was expecting a nice morning alone. Wrong. The Seattle relatives (remember them?) had just flown in and needed a nice air-conditioned place to recover from jet lag since they couldn't check into their hotel room yet and Nann's AC no longer works. So they came over here and crashed while I watched E and talked to people on Aim. Somewhere around noon, Mom and Aunt Diann (arrived from Jersey Thursday night) came back home with a ton of flowers which we arranged in vases for the party with the help of Nanna and Auntie Gina. The Seattle people woke up eventually and I walked down to the diner with them and Nanna for lunch or dinner or whatever it was. My cousin Erin has greatly improved since the last time I saw her. For one thing, she talks more. And she's really interested in Jazzy since she raised a guide dog puppy for GDB and knows a few things about guide dogs. (that dog almost made it to full guide dog status, but was unfortunately rejected very late in his training because he suffered from frequent ear infections. He's since been certified as a therapy dog.) Anyway, we had a good time stuffing our faces and talking to our waitress who also used to raise guide dogs (for GDF) and had seen my picture in GDF's newsleter. Afterwords, the relatives went to the beach and I came back here. Friday night we went to a luau celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary of my former babysitter and her husband. It was a nice party and they were very surprised.
Saturday: went to set up the room in the firehouse in the morning for the party with help from Katelyn and her parents. It was nice to see Katelyn again after almost a month. In the afternoon my relatives from Rhode Island showed up as did many other people. I got ready and went back to the firehouse around five-thirty to finish setting up. People started arriving around seven. There were a ton of people there, so many I didn't even get to see all of them. It was kind of hard to mingle and I ended up spending less time with my friends than I would've wanted. But I think they had a good time. During dinner Katelyn surprised me with a very impressive slide show like the one she'd made for her party. (Thanks Bev. It was lovely) I danced a lot, mostly with Matt, and believe it or not, Krista managed to get Glenn out on the dance floor. I don't think we had as much luck with Bob though. I also danced with my dad and brother at the beginning of the party which was nice. We played Kerri Trivia (the table with my dad's brothers and sisters won, though my brother was sitting with them so I think they had an unfair advantage), my cousin Jacqueline Irish step-danced, and we sang rousing renditions of "New York New York" and "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". I was about ready to kill the dj because he hadn't played "Bohemian Rhapsody" but he snuck it in towards the end and we all sang. I think some of my family members were impressed that we actually knew the words. Matt and I hung out a little after everyone left and he gave me my present: a butterfly necklace and a book on CD. Very nice. Then I drove home with Dad in a car full of leftover food and crashed on the spare bed in my brother's room since mine was taken by Uncle George and Aunt Regina. Overall, it was an excellent party. I couldn't've asked for better.
Sunday: woke up early and had a very large breakfast with the Rhode Island people who were leaving on the next ferry out. I think I'm beginning to tolerate Cousin Mollie more now too. I guess I'll have to, she's going to Iona this fall which is semi-close to Mville so we'll be seeing more of each other. I opened some of my gifts in the afternoon and then Dad and I drove into Brooklyn. Matt's beeper baseball team, The Long Island Bombers, was playing an exhibition game at the park where the Brooklyn Cyclones play so I went to see it. I got to stand right on the field and watch. Matt made a pretty good catch in the 3rd inning, although the ball went off his foot and he had to hunt around in the grass for it a bit. The game was only 3 innings since it was exhibition (normally they're 6) and the Bombers won two to nothing. Afterwords they had a barbecue for the team so Matt and I hung out and ate. I also got to meet Justin, a friend of Francesca's who's also on the team. Nice guy. Very fun. So now I'm a Bombers groupie. I should get a shirt or something. They're going to Houston next week for the Beeper Ball World Series which is pretty cool. Matt told me there'll be teams from all over the world there, even in places like Taiwan where I never thought anyone would know about beeper baseball. Cool. So I had a nice, if somewhat hot, afternoon with the bf who I probably won't see again till next Sunday at least. Anyway, after that I went home and weGot a ton of cash. I can now buy my mp3 player and then some. And that's it I guess.
Thanks to everyone for comming to my party and for your wonderfull gifts. I hope you had as good a time as I did. And Kate/Cameron and Becky tie for Best Cards.
