Okay it's not that big a deal but I've decided to go back to school to get a certificate in Applied Geography a.k.a. Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Since I haven't been able to find anything long term, non-grunt work related in the biology/environmental/urban forestry/urban ecology field and the GIS field is exploding right now I made the executive decision to enroll at MC in their Applied Geography program. It's only 7 classes (one year**) and is way cheaper than UMD plus I'll still be able to work for Jim Lyons at CT if he'll have me. My current long term plan/goal is as follows:
1. Attend classes at MC in pursuit of a certificate in GIS
2. Work part-time for Jim Lyons at CT
3. Continue to look and apply for a job
4. Study for and take the GRE
5. Obtain a job with a company or the government so as to have them pay for grad school, hopefully at UMD, where I will study GIS in their Master's program
Of course this is all subject to change but right now I'm psyched. Let me tell you though that I had no plans of going back to school anytime soon. I got my degrees and I was outta there for a while cause there was no way I was paying anymore money but now I'm looking forward to these classes cause GIS is so interesting to me. Yeah I'm a nerd and a dork. I'm a dorky nerd. Or maybe a nerdy dork. Either way... :P
Also can you believe the size of this hurricane?? It's incredible. I'm in awe of it's size and power. Nature really is an awesome thing isn't it?
**EDIT: It won't take one year to finish unless I can work my way around the pre-req's which could be possible since I've already done some work with GIS in my various internships...
