Mothers and others
From theatrical_muse: Write about a mother (your own or someone else's).
I'd rather not, thank you very much. I hardly remember my own one; she died in a factory accident when I was three, and she was so feckless she left me nothing but memories of a succession of 'uncles', and I ended up as a ward of the state.
And I don't want to remember the mothers on Zircaster who were trying to protect their children and begging the troopers to spare them. I shot the officer who ordered us to gun them down--on Space Commander Travis's orders, yes, but that was her choice--and deserted along with most of my unit, but I still have nightmares about all the civilians who faced more obedient soldiers than us.
