A song from Mary Poppins ("Jolly Holiday") just came up on my randomplay. The song included the following verse, where Mary addresses Bert:
"You'd never think of pressing your advantage
Forbearance is the hallmark of your creed
A lady needn't fear when you are near
Your sweet gentility is crystal clear."
That's damning with faint praise, isn't it? It's a jolly holiday with Bert because he restrains himself from acting like a rapist monster. (sigh) Rape culture pops up in all sorts of odd places. Even children's movies. (sigh)
