Post, in your journal, a rec list singling out the best of your own fics. Tell people why you are especially proud of those particular fics, and of course provide links to them. Yes, that's right, this step involves self-promotion. How else are people supposed to find your fics? List as many or as few as you feel appropriate to represent your body of writing.
Also include a paragraph about the types of fics you most enjoy reading or are most interested in reading in the immediate future -- favorite tropes, pairings, fandoms, whatever. If you're particularly lazy, link to that Dear Writer post you did for whatever holiday exchange comes to mind.

My Best Fic
1. Necessity (Doctor Who)
There is no Bad Wolf; Rose has to make it back to the Doctor the hard way. Alternative universe version of Parting of the Ways. (AU)
Why am I proud of this fic? Because I made pigs fly! This was the hardest thing I've ever written, and I pulled it off. Writing an original alien character, making her motives plausible, that was hard. I'm also proud of the way I pulled together disparate threads of canon to provide fodder for solutions to the problems. I like the characterisation of this more mature Rose, who did things the hard way.
2. Verity (Sentinel/Matrix)
What have Jim's nightmares, Blair's nightmares, Alex Barnes, two creepy Feds, a terrorist gang led by a man called Morpheus, Naomi Sandburg, Blair's childhood bedtime stories, the legends of the Kombai Tree People, and a lady who bakes excellent cookies got in common? Just this -- that nothing is as it seems, and Everything You Know Is Wrong.
Why am I proud of this fic? Because it fits! All those little connections I managed to make between Sentinel canon and Matrix canon. The way I built up the mystery. The dream sequences! The symbolism! The way that people kept on making plausible but wrong assumptions. The fact that Jim and Blair were both special in their own ways, that they rescued each other.
3. Alternative Escape (Doctor Who/Blake's 7)
Avon has had a very bad year; some might even say that he wasn't quite sane. Now he's just killed Blake. If you'd been stranded in an alien universe since you were a child, passing as human, what would you think if a TARDIS turned up and the Time Lord inside claimed to be your father? (AU)
Why am I proud of this fic? Because I wrote it in 1989, it was my first long fic, and it still holds up. The characterisations of Tegan and Vila are particularly good. Besides being a PGP (and a sort of remix), it's a sequel to "Snakedance", one of my favourite Who serials, and I really like what I did with the sequences in the Dark Places of the Inside. I like how brash Tegan interacted with snarky Avon.
4. In Truth, Beauty (Harry Potter/Buffy)
Sometimes love needs a little nudge; sometimes love needs a wallop on the head.
Why am I proud of this fic? Because I invented a pairing! Well, I don't think anyone besides me has written Snape/Anya. I am proud that, despite the seeming insanity of the pairing, I went ahead and wrote it anyway, and I do think it works.
5. The Butterfly Effect (Blake's 7)
Why am I proud of this series? Because every story has been "experimental"; I challenged myself with different writing styles and points of view. That was partly motivated by the fact that this Alternative Universe treads very close to canon, and I didn't want to get bored writing it. After I'd started being experimental, I considered it a challenge to continue to do so.
6. Winning is the Only Safety (Blake's 7/Highlander)
Why am I proud of this series? Because it's the kind of thing I would like to read myself. I made Avon an Immortal! Avon waking up and thinking he's in hell, and then being completely sceptical about The Game, it's just so him. And then in the next story when Avon pwns Methos, and Vila rescues himself from Servalan - it's just so much fun!
7. Doesn't Look Like A Hell Dimension (Buffy/Doctor Who)
Why am I proud of this fic? Because it surprised me how well Buffy and the Doctor suit each other as fellow world-savers. I love it when a story surprises me in a positive way, becomes more than I thought it could be. And it's full of snappy dialogue.
8. Shadows and Flames (Sentinel)
After the fire, guilt and nightmare. Hurt, angst, a little comfort.
Why am I proud of this fic? Because it is evocative, poetic, vivid, full of dream imagery and angst. One of the things I love about writing The Sentinel fic is that it prompts you to pull out the stops in describing the world of the senses. This was done for a Lyric Wheel, and that style of ficathon also prompts me to pull out the stops in the poetic/emotional arena, because one is trying to grasp the tone of the lyrics, not just fulfil the plot requirements of a prompt. With those two factors in play, this one really grabs you.
9. Two To Make Peace (Vorkosiverse/Doctor Who)
The assignment was supposed to be simple. But since when have any of Miles Vorkosigan's assignments been simple? Especially when the stranger with the blue box turns up.
Why am I proud of this fic? Because this was the first time I'd ever written Miles Vorkosigan; the thought of doing so intimidated me, and yet I managed to pull it off. I'm also proud because the Doctor kept on wanting to take over and solve everything, and I managed to beat him back enough to make it an equal partnership between them. Miles got to do what Miles does best, and the Doctor, well, he was the Doctor.
My Fic Likes
I'm a friendshipper. That isn't to say I dislike romance, not at all, but I prefer romances that are based on friendship. I want stories to end happily or hopefully, but angst along the way makes the happy ending sweeter. I like ideas I haven't seen before. I love beautiful poetic prose. I love themes and layers; things that make a story mean more than just a there-and-back-again adventure. This includes stories which are immersed in the mythopoeic. I like wit (as distinct from situation comedy). I like snappy dialogue. I like the familiar made strange - which is something that the best crossovers do. I have a soft spot for psi stuff -- you know, telepathy, telempathy, the "special powers" sort of thing, whether it be cast in a SF mode or a fantasy one. I particularly enjoy it when unexpected telepathy/empathy forces two characters to discard their prejudices and become friends. I like balance. I like a mixture of action, drama, character exploration, angst, friendship/romance, comfort. Which means I tend to prefer longer stories over shorter ones.
