I've always loved that his passions weren't limited to the "lore of his city" like Denethor's were. (Who to be clear, I also have a true soft spot for.) He took up with Mithrandir and was ready to ride off for Ithilien - he strikes me as an intellectual adventurer and someone who'd love to hear your stories and share one or two of his own. So I can see him getting along quite nicely with people not from his own world. Nice pick. :-)
