A Year In Craft - October (10/12)

Jan 10, 2015 18:50

October was all-out crafting, since I was feeling a bit better in my recovery. The big thing this month was SCALESssssss, but there was also maille, crochet and general jewellerying.

This was my scale-maille bracer (after much experimentation with scales, which I'm not going to show all the pictures for).
First, some "in progress" shots of the bracer.

Then my poor attempts to get a good look at the finished product.

More scales.

This is a patch of pure scale-maille, done as part of my explorations of scales. Unlike the other scale experiments, I kept this, because I think it could be used as the centrepiece of a necklace.

I like making keychains. This is my first attempt at Helm Chain.

This is another work (like the paua-shell necklace) which had been lying around not-finished for quite a while. First there was the pendent (which I'm very pleased with) and then trying to think of a worthy chain for it, which I ended making a Kumihimo braid in embroidery thread that was chosen to go with the colours of the pendant (shades of brown and pale green). Then that sat around needing to have its ends bound off, for quite a long time. Then finally the earrings were made.

I had been intending to make a different thing for sister-in-law #1, but when I came across this chunky rainbow yarn, I simply had to make a shawl from it. I augmented the rainbow yarn with a couple of balls of other chunky yarn from my stash, and crocheted the border with two strands of (non-chunky) charcoal-grey wool to neaten and prettify the edges.

Done for the other SS/HG exchange this year. See this post. Yes, I can talk about this one because the reveals have happened.
