A Year In Craft - August (08/12)

Jan 10, 2015 18:16

August was the month of maille, crochet and spool-knitting.

A VERY LONG keychain. This was made for two reasons:
(a) I was making it for the "25 rings" M.A.I.L. contest, but didn't finish it in time. This has 25 colours with each colour using 25 rings, so it's 25x25.
(b) Brother #2 had broken the keychain I had made for him a couple of years ago, because he was trying to stretch it from his belt-loop to the ignition of the car he was driving, so I decided to make him a REALLY LONG keychain so it would be sure to reach and not break.

This necklace was made for
lizbee on hearing that she was going to work for a difficult boss; I figured she could do with some peace.
This was also my first attempt at wire-crochet and using a draw-plate.

This was me trying spool-knitting with beads.

This was spool-knitting with multiple threads at the same time, which was rather difficult because the threads were too disparate in thickness. But it's pretty cool: one of the yarns is reflective, though you can't really see it unless it catches the light just so.

More loom-knit scarfing. The black one was my first attempt at "Criss-Cross" stitch. It came out well, I think. If I hadn't earmarked it for Brother #1 I think I might have kept it for myself. Lovely soft merino+Alpaca.

This is a "steampunk" fingerless glove, made with a metal motif, a bit of chainmaille around that, and then the rest of the glove crocheted around that centrepiece. Yes, only one glove. It's a steampunk glove, it has cachet all on on its own.

This multi-thread spool-knit cord worked a bit better than the other one, because the threads were closer in size. But it's still easier to do it with just one.
