this was a comment to someone's LJ.... i feel that it shows where i'm coming from and basically covers everything i've been trying to say... it's long, but i am in a pensive mood... comment and tell me how u feel... this is totally non-bias so fans of any sport/team can relate
physical entity in the universe?... no, its baseball... and thats what makes it great..
as someone who's been to many stadiums for many sports, the energy is everywhere, its just more apparent when you're at your favorite team's park... for me, yankee stadium was amazing as you would probably see it as just another building.. and every ballpark they shut down a street for fans who do not have tickets to "mingle" or hang out... in pittsburg they even shut down the bridge that is visible from home plate so that people can stand on the bridge and watch the game through the gap in the stadium... or what about the "splash zone" in san francisco bay where fans can kayack and catch home run balls... does fenway have that?
the history of the park has to do with the sense of emotion, but to say that there's nothing like that anywhere in the world is in a small way, true, but each city has their own "feel" or "unique quality" to a park that makes it belong to them
watch any press conference for any team... they always say they have the best fans in the world, and gaurenteed if any of the many sox in free agency go to another team, they will be the best fans anywhere... and at every concert they say the fans "here" are the greatest... do u really think that they go to the other stops and say "mass is better than you"... no, they say "you are the best audience"... to say that only sox fans "live and die with the team" is bias... watch any game the hometeam loses... their fans bury their heads in their arms as deeply as sox fans, only they've been doing it for longer
everyone who loves the sport is passionate about their team whether they're in the world series, lost the alcs, or did so badly they are no longer in the MLB... there are loyal fans in every state and to say that sox fans are more so is in a way, ignorant
i know this was triggered by my comments, but realize that for some unknown reason people are still IMing me or calling me saying "yankees suck"... dispite the fact that i openly admit that the more well rounded team won, it doesn't end... that's not passion, that's immaturity... i'm not saying that all fans are like that by any means, just the ones who stand out and represent the fans in the news along with the rioters
also saying the "move the fuck away thing" brings me back to middle/high school.... i didn't have a choice where i was brought up, i didn't have a choice what team's park was closest to my house... i did have a choice in what team i root for... instead of cheering for the hometown team, i found one that i'm fascinated by both the history and the current players... i just enjoy watching games... i have probably watched a total of 3 innings of the world series just cuz i dont find the teams involved, interesting... both of the teams are talented and deserve to be where they are, but i just dont get involved...
i'm proud to be from mass and i love living here... the fact that my favorite team happens to be a rival of the sox is in no way a valid point to tell me or anyone to "move the fuck away"... i'll probably live in new england my whole life, as will i be a yankees fan...
sports are just sports... nothing more, nothing less... people who take it too seriously are those who ruin it for the people who purely love the game... dont make anything more of baseball.. it's a sport... its a great sport... and the atmosphere in any stadium, any park, any fanbase is unlike any other, which is what makes sports unique
