I knew it was going to happen

There is an open field across the street from my office.  Not too long after I got my camera, I decided to wander over and see what was there.  I found Tuscarora Creek just on the other side of the field.  I started going over from time to time during lunch to enjoy this small bit of nature, an oasis of calm in this chaotic world.

Over the years I have seen:

White tail Deer.

Blue Heron

Eastern Box Turtle

Brown Bat (you’ll have to trust me on this one.  I wasn’t fast enough to get a better shot)

Fish in the creek.

Song Birds of various breeds.
Yes, this is technically the parking deck, but they feed in the field.

And then there were the times I got very lucky and got a Hawk and White tail deer

Simple beauty in nature:
Flowers

Butterfly

Cattails

Serenity

Many mornings I would stop and look out from the parking deck just to enjoy the scene.

In 2014 I saw a sign go up advertising that new townhomes were going to be build in the field.

I have only been back a handful of times since then.  Thinking about what was going to be lost angered me.

Today I saw this when I pulled in.
Beautiful, mature trees torn up and a bulldozer make another round.

I knew it was coming.  But it doesn’t make it hurt any less. To paraphrase John Denver: They’re tearing it down to bring in more.  More homes, more people.  That beauty will be gone and Townhouses will soon be build there.  Even if they don’t managed to damage the creek, I won’t be able to get down there anymore.  A part of me wonders where the animals will move to?  Will the Barn Swallows come back with the field and the insects gone?
