everything

It feels like it's been awhile since I've posted anything substantial.

Regarding the leak the dishwasher is getting replaced upstairs but never got a solid answer on what caused the flood. The engineer in me wants to know! If it was a mechanical failure of the dishwasher I understand sometimes these things happen. But if it was caused by something avoidable in would be nice to know so as to not have a repeat in the future. Also: never got a straight story on the naked woman.

It seems like it's been a tough time recently. Flisters with various health problems, or health problems with family members. Patricia and tripperfunster both had dogs run over in recent weeks. shygryf had to put her cat down.

On Monday one of my dad's oldest friends died. He'd had health problems after having pancreatic cancer and did survive an amazing six and a half years (that type of cancer has a really bleak five year survival rate of less than 5%). Over the weekend he went in to the hospital because he wasn't feeling well. On Sunday they did a GI scope which apparently caused an air embolism that went to his brain and caused a stroke, leaving him brain dead. The hospital was to perform an autopsy because it was "an unexpected outcome" for the procedure he underwent, though I've not heard what the results of the autopsy were. His family had him taken off a ventilator and he died 25 hours later.

Here's hoping better things are coming.

In other news I did get a new roommate sorted out. Current RM is moving out Wednesday, so we're going to his favorite restaurant tonight. New RM seems like a really nice guy. He'll be going to BU Law and will move in some time towards the end of the month.

In two weeks I get to go to Alaska to visit the folks, and my brother will be there at teh same time. I leave the evening of the 14th and get back late on the 23rd, so it'll be nice time. Plans include: fishing, hiking, kayaking, biking, blueberry picking (we never actually bring any home, just eat as many as we can when we find them growing wild). And guess what my awesome brother did? He got me a ticket with his frequent flyer miles so I'm going to Alaska free! I know! He had something like 350,000 miles that are expiring in 2010 so needed to start using them.

Oh, if you're on Facebook you should start playing Restaurant City. Patricia has me hooked!

ETA: ronpansy_fest has started posting for the exchange so go check it out.
