the small ways

So a couple weeks ago we went to Batam, Indonesia for a little trip over a long weekend, where we stayed in a nice hotel, went swimming a bunch, ate some good Indonesian food, got a massage, and did some shopping as it's much cheaper than Singapore. And Patricia got her hair cut. Takes about 40 minutes by ferry to get to Batam.

While we were there Patricia picked up some gum, and brought it back over, gum being famously against the law here.

Tonight she offered me a piece, which I accepted, realizing it's been more than a year since I've had gum, probably. We got to talking and I said I actually liked not seeing black spots on the sidewalks from old gum, never finding a sticky piece under a table or chair or stuck to the bottom of a shoe. I said I actually liked and supported Singapore's no gum policy and then I said "Oh, no! I'm becoming a fascist!"
