I was horrified by this entire film. (except the setting, which just sort of made me jealous that I wanted to live there.)
My mother was visiting, and rented it because she'd seen it and thought that my husband and I needed to see it. She pretty much squeed and clapped through the whole thing, and hubby and I were mostly 0_o throughout.
Did Not Like At All.
And I'd like to say that I HAVE VERY LOW STANDARDS WHEN IT COMES TO ENTERTAINMENT. This was possibly the worst film I'd seen in ... forever.
Adendum: The newest three Star Wars movies were the worst I've seen. This barely scratched the surface of acting/writing fail of those.
Oh, and the Batman movie. What the fucking hell? I seriously could not watch The Phantom Menace. Completely unwatchable to me, and sadly, I seem to be the only one in the world who thinks so.
I think a lot of people hated Phantom Menace. I didn't, but was underwhelmed.
But my single least favorite scene occurs in one of the "new" Star Wars (it's not PM, maybe the second but I'm not sure). Anakin says to Padme-and this is the height of Lucas's romantic dialog writing-he says to her "I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here everything is soft and smooth." (I think he's touching her cheek at this point.)
Oh, I hated pretty much all the Batman movies. (I liked the tv show as a kid, though.)
I was literally dragged to the first Spiderman movie, thinking it would be that same put-on campy dark and cheezoid crap that the Batman movies had been, and was SO pleasantly surprised that it had *gasp* character development and even WRITING! And I had empathy for the characters!! Not saying they were great, but it really showed me how good the Batman movies could have been.
And yeah, I was SO EXCITE for the new Star Wars movies when they came out. The first 'original' one aired when I was seven and it changed my life. I really wanted to see how anniken became Darth Vader. by the time it actually came to be, I was bored to tears and shocked and appalled at the crappy writing and acting. *sad face*
There was an awesome Batman cartoon for awhile. Maybe 90s-2000s? Not sure. But it was good stuff.
I thought the first and second Spiderman were okay but HATED the third with stupid emo-pimp Spiderman. Hated it!
I think part of the problem with Star Wars is we saw the originals as kids and they were awesome and magic and we didn't know or care about some of the cheesy aspects and bad dialog, but did when we saw the new ones as adults.
