I just got done with a five and a half hour Alterac Valley match. I mean...five and a half fucking hours! Geez... I was only there for around four of that, but still. Man...
It was fun, though, and we won. For those of you who don't waste your life on World of Warcraft, which means just about everyone other than Heather and Paul, I'll explain this really quickly.
World of Warcraft = massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG). There are over 6 million users. On my server there are probably about six-thousand. There are two factions, the Horde and the Alliance. I play Horde.
battleground = a match between players of opposing factions within the game in which they do various game activities not related to role playing, such as playing capture the flag.
Alterac Valley is a high level (lvl 51-60, 60 is the highest level in the game - I'm 53) battleground in which 40 people from each faction battle each other for control of this really long valley (aproximately 5 miles long). There are a number of towers and bunkers to control and takeover, and finally a base with a boss. A match ideally will take around two hours. However, they will sometimes last ten. That doesn't mean that everyone sticks around that long. Everytime someone drops out, someone else comes into the match to take their place. Thus, by the end of a very long match, it's entirely possible that none of the people playing are from the original team that started the match. For instance, in this match I came in about an hour after the match started.
Here's a picture of the valley:
Here's a picture I took during a match:
Here's another one which gives you an idea of how big a team is. All the people with green names are on my team. This is us pushing up the last big hill before the Alliance base.
So now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
I know that was nerdy. But to quote
Angrycandy, "YEAH, OKAY - THIS IS MY JOURNAL. I'll post whatever lame crap I want to post, ***dammit. =)
DEAL WITH IT."
Good day,
