Keromaru One thing I determined when I was in Britain was that the British have an interesting sense of humor about their own history. Just go to Hampton Court or the Tower of London and listen to the tour guides talk about Henry VIII's search for the perfect wife, his execution of said wives, or Richard III's supposed murder of his nephews. It's at the same time deadpan and cheerful, almost like they're telling a familiar joke. We hear these stories, and everyone, American, British, or otherwise, thinks, "Oh, those crazy monarchs."
This idea crystallized for me when I went to the Tower gift shop, and found Henry VIII chocolates.
That is, chocolates with portraits of Henry VIII and his wives on the wrappers. I saw this and thought, "What an odd thing to celebrate by putting on chocolate."
I guess, in a way, whoever made them is just being honest. Let's face it, Henry VIII was funny. Starting a religion so he could get a divorce? Comedy gold.
