Mobile Madness

I don't think i'm in the mood for a rant, but i'll try to dish one out :-)

Have you ever had someone ring your mobile when you're temporarily busy? By 'temporarily' I mean you're doing something that isn't long enough or significant enough that you would turn your phone off. Like talking to a sales-person, or driving to the local shops. What I usually do in such a situation, is to get my phone out and press the red(hang-up) button. Fair enough, right?

Now imagine this caller calls again immediately... and then again... and again... upwards of 5-6 times, until I get sick of it and turn my phone off completely. By the third time i'm thinking, okay, I know you want to talk to me, and it seems to be urgent, but I CAN'T ANSWER, sorry, not right now. If you call back in 5 mins, i'll probably answer. Or I might call you back if I know what it's about.

I've been on the calling-end of this situation too, so I know: when someone calls, they hear ringing; when I press hang-up, they hear the busy tone. It doesn't take too much to figure out what's happened to cause the busy tone... I obviouly wasn't in the middle of a call because it was ringing first.

Anyway, this same situation occurred to someone else recently too, so I thought i'd better post about it. I mean, you'd understand what ringing-then-busy-tone means, right? Personally i'd send a text message instead, or give up and try later. If it really was urgent I would probaby keep ringing, but the two times this has happened- the purpose of the call was not the least bit urgent.
