So this weekend I didn't do much. But that's typical of me when I'm working here because I'm busy during the week.
I did accomplish a small number of things:
- 1.5 loads of laundry (need to dry the second load and then it will be two loads)
- visited Alli in hospital and brought her books
- Avoided interaction with the auntuncle
- Saw Brokeback Mountain
The thing about Brokeback Mountain was that it was really good, and not just good for the sake of being arty or shocking or whatever. It strove to be normal and I think it mostly managed. Anne Hathaway was disconcerting. And is so not a blonde. There was only one scene in the whole movie where you saw two guys get down to it, but I think the 'phobes were appeased by the later appearance of Anne Hathaway and Michelle Williams' boobs. Anne Hathaway's boobs. Like I can ever watch The Princess Diaries again. Anyway, there were two hetro sex scenes (nearly three, really) as opposed to one homosexual one. I imagine there were tough men who were dragged against their will to the movie by their girlfriends who were going: "Oh yuck! Two guys! That's not natural! And this isn't like Will and Grace at all! Well, it looks like they might love each other...oh Carrie likes when I do that too! Ohh...I mean...eww! Right! Oh good! Boobs! I like boobs! I am a man, and I like boobs!" There wasn't even a whole lot of kissing. But I think that the fact that it was tender and close rather than being overtly sexual and shocking probably gave the most people pause. Anyway, it was a good movie. I'm going to hunt down the short story, I think, and give it a read.
I'm registering for my Italian course today.
